IEC of Utah offers help to apprentices working for contractor members. Candidates preparing to take their Utah Journeyman License tests may choose to participate in the test prep options listed below:
- Group Study Sessions- Group study sessions are held once each month. The purpose of these sessions is to give individualized help with study plans, and to answer specific questions. This session is NOT a prepared presentation, but instead is an opportunity to get in-person feedback on questions that come up after taking the test or that arise from other test preparation activities.
- Code Practice- The Code Practice class has two elements: First, a prepared class on code topics to study. We will review the code book and the Candidate Information Bulletin. We will discuss marking strategies and highlight code sections on which to focus study. We will give information on the structure of the Code, and the calculations and processes when sizing conductors, raceways, overcurrent protection, enclosures, and determining clearances.
- Theory Practice-The Theory Practice class has two elements: First, a prepared class on theory topics to study. We will review the Ugly's reference book and the Candidate Information Bulletin. We will discuss marking strategies and highlight pages in the book on which to focus study. We will go over some practice problems in various categories.
- Practical Practice Session- The Practical Practice class is awesome! This session is offered on the last Friday of every month to prepare candidates for the State Practical Exam . Students will be given tips and hints for being prepared for the practical exam, including what tools to take and suggestions for double-checking their work before allowing the proctor to examine. The IEC training facility is equipped with boards for practicing Conduit Bending, Motor Controls, and three & four-way switching, transformer hookup practice, and parts identification practice items. The cost for this 4-hour session is $100.
